Technical textiles are textile materials and products manufactured primarily for their technical performance and functional properties, rather than aesthetic or decorative characteristics. Unlike conventional textiles (clothing, fashion fabrics), these are engineered to deliver specific functions such as strength, durability, resistance to fire/chemicals/water, filtration, insulation, protection, or reinforcement. They are often called "industrial textiles," "performance textiles," or "functional textiles." The global definition (as per EDANA and industry standards) emphasizes that function is the primary criterion. These textiles use high-performance fibers like polyester, nylon, aramid (Kevlar), carbon, glass, Nomex, and specialty yarns, combined with advanced processes like weaving, knitting, non-woven, coating, and lamination.
